National scholarships

Scholarships offered on a national level tend to have a higher number of applicants, but they are often much bigger scholarships. Don't be intimidated - many local students have won these scholarships.

There are a few good databases to help you sift through thousands of scholarships to find the ones you are qualified for: fastweb.com, scholarships.com, and collegeboard.com are all good sources. Always PAY ATTENTION when filling out the profiles - many of the advertisements look like part of the profile survey and it's easy to accidentally sign up for something you hadn't intended.

Also be aware and watch out for scams. A "guaranteed" scholarship, or a requirement to pay money is likely a scam - look elsewhere, don't waste your time!
